Cold Weather Rule

The provisions of the Cold Weather Rule establish the disconnection procedures for any residential customer of the cooperative throughout the cold weather period, which extends from November 1-March 31 of each year.

Highlights of the rule are as follows:

  • The temperature must be 35 or above within the next 24-hour period
  • Bluestem will make a telephone call (OR other acceptable means of communication) attempt at least one business day but not more than five business days prior to disconnection
  • Bluestem will make a personal contact attempt telephone call (or other acceptable means of communications) and/or personal contact attempt on the day of disconnection.
  • The cold Weather Rule is not applicable to prepay service accounts.
